<p>Thanks for always being so willing to answer questions!</p>
<p>On page 328 of the 3rd edition of the PBR it states that for VUR, &#8220;once diagnosed, patients should be given antibiotic prophylaxis to prevent UTIs (use amoxicillin or trimethoprim).&#8221;  However, I thought the newest guidelines were NOT to use antibiotic prophylaxis as recent studies show it does not prevent the occurrence of UTIs&#8230;</p>

						<p>I&#8217;ll take this one.  I don&#8217;t think the Board will nitpick over this one.  There is a tremendous amount of debate on this topic.  Though the AAP recently published a new CPG (on evaluation of VUR), some children&#8217;s hospitals are refuting the new guideline.  Similarly, many urologists still prescribe prophylactic antibiotics.  Because the topic is hot and changing, I seriously doubt the Board will nitpick.  My advice would be to follow the material as posted in the guide.</p>
